In Memory of my brother, David Craig Harper
October 17, 1963 – Augsut 25, 2001
My Story
I lost David, my baby brother, on August 25, 2001 to suicide. David
had a youthful face, even as he grew older—I always called
him Babyface. I don’t quite know how to describe our relationship,
but we were very close.
When David turned 18, he joined the Navy. He was stationed in Tennesse
and while there, met the love of his life and mother of his child.
I never got to see him much during this time, but when we did get
together, I really enjoyed him.
Then David disappeared from the family for eight years. We did not
know if he was alive or decesed and it wore on my mother until her
death on March 11, 1999. Then one day, my brother Don saw David
at a truckstop in Wichita, Kansas. Don caught up with him and confronted
David about staying our of touch with the family for so long.
David finally returned to Missouri in April 12, 2001. Our step-father
has passed away and David came home for the funeral. We visited
Mom’s gravesite after the funeral and it was very hard on
David.
I realize that it was his bi-polar depression that caused him to
remain to distance over the years. I miss my baby brother terribly.
